From Iceland — Progressives Down By Nearly Half

Progressives Down By Nearly Half

Published October 31, 2013

The Progressive Party, which leads the Icelandic government, has lost almost half of its support from elections only six months previous.
According to the latest poll from Market and Media Research, support for the Progressive Party is now at 13.2%. This is not only down from 15.4% just two weeks previous – it is also down from their greatest level of support, 24.4%, at the time of elections last April.
News was a bit brighter for the Independence Party, who share the ruling coalition with the Progressives, and who are also the largest party in the country. Their support went up from the last poll, from 26.5% to 28.6%. The Left-Greens saw a similar bump up in support, from 12.6% to 14.8%.
At the same time, support for the Social Democrats saw a small dip, from 17.3% to 15.5%; Bright Future went down a hair from 12.2% to 12.1%; and the Pirate Party went from 7.7% to 8.4%.
Support for the ruling coalition is now at 44.8%, up from 44% in the previous poll. Despite the coalition partner now enjoying twice the support of the coalition leader, there has still been no talk of a power exchange.
