Glymur is the highest waterfall in Iceland, rising to an elevation of some 198 metres. To get there, it’s about a one hour drive from Reykjavík, followed by 40 minutes to an hour of walking from the parking lot to the waterfall itself. Our photographer Art Bicnick reported sunny and warm temperatures during his visit (and by “warm” he means 8°C), and a very strong wind – respite from which was had in a beautiful cave he happened upon on his way to the waterfall.
The view is reportedly more impressive from the right side of the waterfall (your right if you’re looking upstream), as from there you can see the entire falls and not just the upper portion. Plenty of tourists were encountered along the way, so now would be a good time to check it out yourself before it’s completely overrun.
