The board of RÚV is currently contemplating whether Iceland should participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, after the European Broadcasting Union voted on December 4 to allow Israel to compete.
Chairman of the RÚV’s board Stefán Jón Hafstein described the decision as a disappointment. RÚV’s stance regarding its participation will be determined on Wednesday, December 10, Vísir reports.
The Netherlands, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have already pulled out of the competition, citing the war in Gaza as their reason.
In a Facebook post, artist Páll Óskar encouraged RÚV to withdraw, with Björk voicing her support to Páll’s message.
“RÚV, please don’t be cowards and losers,” Páll pleaded to the national broadcaster.
In a separate Facebook post, Björk agreed with Páll, saying, “Let’s agree with Páll Óskar’s every word and wish the board of RÚV courage in their decision on Wednesday.”
Sigur Rós joins No Music For Genocide movement
As reported by the Jordanian news outlet Roya News, Sigur Rós have joined the ‘No Music For Genocide’ cultural boycott movement. Launched in September 2025, the campaign urges artists and labels to block their music from streaming platforms in Israel in a protest against genocide in Palestine.
Sigur Rós joins artists such as Björk, Lorde, My Bloody Valentine, Wet Leg and many more with their boycott efforts.
