A man has been sentenced to 15 days in prison for stealing groceries worth ISK 4.496 from a Bónus store in Akureyri, reports RÚV.
The District Court of Northeast Iceland delivered the sentence nearly a year after the theft occurred. The case was heard in the man’s absence, as the offence did not warrant a heavier penalty and the evidence provided was considered sufficient for conviction.
The man has a long criminal record stretching back, with interruptions, to 1992. His most recent conviction was in December 2024, when he was sentenced to 30 days in prison for two counts of theft.
