
The Foreign Ministry has published a travel advisory aimed at LGBTQ+ people, encouraging travellers to be mindful of the attitudes found in other countries.
Compared to Iceland, views towards queer identities are different in other parts of the world, the ministry states, encouraging queer travellers to research the visiting country’s laws and customs beforehand. Queer rights are only respected in a third of the world’s states, the advisory reads.
In 2024, Iceland was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council from 2025-2027. Among its commitments include fighting discrimination against LGBTQI+ persons.
