
At the end of last year, the City of Reykjavík had to correct payments to employees totalling 34 million ISK due to a system error in the calculation of the December bonus, reports Vísir. Around 4,900 city employees were overpaid.
Eva Bergþóra Guðbergsdóttir, the City of Reykjavík’s communications director, confirmed that a system error occurred during the December 1st payroll. The error affected the calculation of the December bonus for approximately 4,900 employees. A correction totalling 34 million ISK was made on December 31st.
Eva stated that the mistake was discovered the day after the payment was made and that the highest individual adjustment required was 11,900 ISK. The amount of overpayment varied depending on employment percentage and length of service.
Reykjavík City employs around 13,000 people, meaning the error affected about 40% of the workforce.
