The 2024 Edda Film Awards were presented April 13, with 20 awards presented to films that premiered between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Hilmar Oddsson’s Á ferð með mömmu (Driving Mum) won a total of eight awards (out of ten nominations). The Honorary Award of the Year went to Sigurður Sverrir Pálsson, who worked as an editor, cinematographer, and program director at RÚV until 1976. Sigurður Sverrir filmed numerous Icelandic films, including Land and Sons, Outlaw, The Beast and many more.

“Filmmaking is teamwork. It was not an easy task to create cinema in the beginning. Directors and producers made significant personal sacrifices. I want to thank you for allowing me to do my work under your protection. It was not obvious, but you made my dreams come true. Thank you for that,” said Sigurður Sverrir in his acceptance speech.

Discovery of the Year award went to Anna Karín Lárusdóttir, director of Sætur (Felt Cute).

In addition, Stockfish Film & Industry Festival announced the winners of its Shortfish short film competition at the Edda Awards. The winners are as follows:

The winner of the Eva Maria Daniels Award 2024 is Fár by Gunnur Martinsdóttir Schlüter.
