A pedophile is in the custody of the Icelandic police, RÚV reports. Police in Suðurnes arrested an American man at the beginning of February on suspicion of sexually assaulting boys in several countries, including Iceland.

The investigation into the matter is extensive, and reaches beyond the scope of any single country. The man has traveled extensively for a considerable amount of time, and is one of many under investigation.

According to news agency sources, the man in question is suspected of, among other things, harassing young boys on social media for pictures, some as young as 13. Police are working on the investigation in collaboration with foreign authorities.

This issue is sensitive because of the range of his crimes. He is also suspected of grooming young kids in Iceland and neighbouring countries. The investigation is ongoing, and focuses on how widespread the offenses are in relation to how many countries he has offended in. Police suspect he also worked with others to commit these crimes.
