Residents of Húsavík are being encouraged to prepare for and welcome the arrival of Will Ferrell, as the North Iceland town will be one of the settings for a new movie about Eurovision that Ferrell is spearheading.

The film in question, called ‘Eurovision’, is slated to be released by Netflix and follows the adventures of a pair of Icelandic musicians hoping to win the song contest. Ferrell will play the decidedly un-Icelandic-ly named character Lars Erickssong, alongside Rachel McAdams as the more-Icelandic-sounding Sigrit Ericksdottir.

In an open letter to the residents of Húsavík, Mayor Kristján Þór Magnússon views the upcoming filming at Húsavík in a decidedly positive light.

“We are talking about a very special occasion here, and it will more than likely have a great and positive effect on tourism in the area if all goes well,” he writes in part. “There is then a lot at stake and it is very important that we townsfolk stand together and let the project proceed with as much ease as possible.”

To that end, the mayor details the ground rules for the townspeople during shooting, which include:

1. No taking photos of shooting sets, actors or other sets and posting them on social media.
2. No flying drones over or near filming sets.
3. Residents must show understanding and tolerance if streets are temporarily closed during filming.

“Finally, I hope that we can all enjoy this fun project for Húsavík, and help to make this a fantastic event in the history of the town,” he concludes. “Let’s welcome those involved in the filming, protect their privacy, and hold a real Eurovision party this spring!”
