No Borders Iceland are putting on a benefit concert at Paloma tonight at 20:00 to support refugees and asylum seekers in Iceland.

Amaba Dama, Bárujárn, Unnsteinn, Just Another Snake Cult and Rvk Soundsystem are set to perform and all staff and organisers will be working pro bono to help the cause. Even Paloma have offered their venue free of charge.

No Borders Iceland hope that the concert will help raise money for a legal defence fund for refugees and asylum seekers looking to appeal their cases in Icelandic courts.

Last week, the Directorate of Immigration’s decision to deport several Albanian families – one with a very sick child – sparked strong criticism among the Icelandic population and politicians alike with many speaking out on social media, signing petitions and expressing feelings of shame at the government’s actions.

Although news that one of the Albanian families may get residence after all, many asylum seekers in Iceland are still struggling for help so if you’re looking for something to do tonight, this might be just the thing for you.
