Bíldudalur resident, Margrét Hjartardóttir has grown a giant rhubarb so tall it reaches her nose, reports Vísir.
“I don’t do anything special, they just grow this big in my garden,” Margrét said. “Though it’s not that great of a phenomenon, they grow this big in Guðbjörg Friðriksdóttir’s garden next door. Suppose it’s the good weather here in Bíldudalur [in the southern Westfjords, not too far from Greenland] that does it.”
Meanwhile, Bíldudalur has seen a sudden 9% surge in residents in the span of a single week. Rhubarb prosperity is not believed to be at the root of Bíldudalur’s new popularity, however. Friðbjörg Matthíasdóttir, Bíldudalur Municipality Council Chairperson, told Vísir the new residents are there due to the establishment of a new company in the area.
