Icelander Convicted Of Smuggling Cocaine

Published March 11, 2014

A 22 year old Icelandic man has been convicted to four and a half years in prison for attempting to smuggle cocaine from Argentina, reports Vísir.

The young man was arrested last October at Buenos Aires Airport, carrying 4.5 kilos of cocaine on route to Alicante, Spain.

Four and a half years is the minimum sentence for drug smuggling in Argentina, it is the young man’s first offence and it is expected that he will not have to serve the full term.

There is no extradition agreement between Iceland and Argentina.
