There was a 40% increase in tourists visiting Iceland this January than last year, reports RÚV.
According to data from the Icelandic Tourist Board almost 47,000 tourists travelled from Iceland in January this year. That is an increase of nearly 40% on last year’s figures which logged 33,000 visitors.
The majority of the visitors were English, almost 36% of the total travellers, or 17,000 tourists. Americans composed 15% of the tourists, meaning half of the visitors were either English or American.
Looking at specific countries, the English had the biggest leap in new visitors, with 6,545 more tourists in January than last year.
