From Iceland — The Pheasant Returns!

The Pheasant Returns!

Published November 11, 2013

Eggert the Pheasant, who has been missing for most of 2013, has finally returned to his owner.
RÚV reports that Eggert had made his way into a barn in the hamlet of Ytra Gili, just outside of Akureyri, where Eggert is from. Residents there phoned bird-raiser Sigurvin Jónsson, Eggert’s owner, who came to pick him up.
Sigurvin speculates that the horrible weather that has plagued Iceland these past couple days was simply too much for Eggert to bear, and he elected to have comfort over freedom.
As reported, Eggert has reportedly been on the loose since last spring. While there have been many sighting of him, he has always managed to elude capture.
He recently narrowly escaped being captured by several police officers in the backyard of an Akureyri residence. Police also say Eggert has killed at least three hens that they know of.
Eggert is now back in his cage at Sigurvin’s residence. No word yet if he will face the music for the hen killings.
