Crashed Russian Jet To Be Repaired In Iceland

Published July 24, 2013

The owners of the Russian jet that landed on its belly at Keflavík International Airport on Sunday have arrived in Iceland to review the damage and determine how the aircraft can be salvaged.
A team of repairmen from the Sukhoi factory has also arrived in the country and has requested use of a hangar to begin to repair the jet, RÚV reports.
The jet was moved from its resting place on runway 29 just last night. A team of airport staff placed inflatable cushions under the plane’s wings in an effort to lift the body enough to lower the landing gear. The cushions were not enough to lift the 30 tonne machine, though, and cranes were brought in to complete the job.
