From Iceland — Fines For Snow-Covered Cars

Fines For Snow-Covered Cars

Published March 10, 2011

Police are handing out tickets to drivers who have not properly cleaned their cars of snow before taking to the road.
Vísir reports that ten drivers in Reykjavík were pulled over yesterday and fined 5,000 ISK for not fully clearing the snow from their vehicles, especially from the windows.
A statement from the police says that drivers need to be aware that when they limit their visibility, they endanger other people on the road. Police have been particularly diligent about stopping snow-covered cars driving through areas near playschools and primary schools.
Police have promised that anyone found driving with snow not fully cleared from all the windows of their vehicle can expect to be pulled over and fined.
So whether you own a car, or are just renting one during your visit here, you might be well advised to make sure you clean the windows before hitting the road.
