From Iceland — Air Pollution Over Health Limit

Air Pollution Over Health Limit

Published February 4, 2010

The amount of dust in the air will be over acceptable limits today and over the next few days, according to a statement from Reykjavík city council.
The city recommends that those with sensitive respiratory systems, asthma, or any kind of lung disease avoid going out of doors near high traffic areas.
The acceptable limit of dust in the air is 50 micrograms per cubic meter. However, during midafternoon on Miklabraut, that level has reached twice the amount recently.
The causes behind the air pollution is a combination of dry, cold weather, and people using spiked tires – normally reserved for very icy conditions – continuously, rather than only when needed.
