Happening Tonight: Cycle Music and Art Festival Begins!

The fluorescent aisles of Bónus aren’t often sought as a sanctuary for creative output that say, a mountaintop at midnight, would provide. But Carolyn Chen—a composer from California—finds the former a sufficient substitute for the latter. On October 28 Chen performs an ongoing and participatory project “Supermarket Music” as a part of Cycle Music and Art Festival 2016.

The festival, on it’s second spin around the sun, is held in Kópavogur and focuses on the intersection between contemporary art music and visual culture. From this helix of genre-bending projects emerge other artists (un)like Chen: on Friday night experimental electronicians Curver Thoroddsen and Steinunn Harðardóttir (aka DJ flugvél og geimskip) will face off in a musically competitive game of chess; on Saturday Erik Bünger performs the true story of the first voice ever recorded; on Sunday a multi-channel video installation opens the door to a parallel universe.

They are just a few in a full four-day programme, based in Kópavogur’s cultural centre Hamraborg.
