New In Town: Salt Restaurant & Iðnó

New in town: where we check out the latest arrivals in Reykjavík drinking, dining and culture. This time, it’s a freshly opened harbourside restaurant Salt and regenerated concert hall Iðnó.

Salt
Geirsgata 3
Salt is a new eatery in the jolly blue harbourside restaurant village on the way to Grandi. They serve Icelandic staples of fish, meat, and vegetables, in very generous portions. The interior is sleek and contemporary, with low lighting and a muted grey colour scheme, but the interior is concrete, and so the hubbub travels—it’s maybe not the place for a romantic dinner, but for groups, or a tasty lunch, it could be your new go-to.

Iðnó
Vonarstræti 3
Iceland’s glorious lakeside music hall Iðnó is hardly novel, but it has been filled with a new energy lately. They’ve been hosting all kinds of art events and parties, from poetry readings, to a Norður og Niður wrap event and now-legendary new-year bash, to a masked ball. It also has a new café where you can try a variety of lunch and dinner options in a tastefully retro environment. We recommend the sild—it’s the best in town.
