Nat.Kitchen’s Inaugural Month Lives Up To Name

The health food craze is alive and well in the city of Reykjavík and Nat.Kitchen, which opened its doors on Laugavegur last month, is one of the city’s newest representatives of the cult of green. The restaurant was a collaborative project which brought together a team comprised of an Italian chef, flight-attendant-restaurant-manager, and father of said flight-attendant-restaurant-manager, to transform a men’s tailored garment shop into a health-food haven in less than two months. Much of the swanky infrastructure still remains, including a black pebble floor and bench-seating cut into the wall where changing rooms used to be.

The menu encompasses breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, and includes anything from coffee to fresh juices to a choose-your-own salad bar. For those without the time for a sit-down meal, daily pre-made sandwiches, wraps, and fruit bowls fill shelves along the restaurant’s right-hand wall. Vegan options are available as well.

But, one might ask, with so many restaurants in Reykjavík, what sets Nat. Kitchen apart from the rest? “I think it’s a new, fresh restaurant with really fast service,” Restaurant manager, Karitas María Lárusdóttir said.

The eatery will provide several signature dishes but Karitas is adamant in her desire to keep the menu ever-changing. “We always want you to be able to come and get something new,” Karitas said. A new menu with the restaurant’s staple dishes is set for release next week.

Nat.Kitchen is open from 8:00-21:00 Monday through Friday and 9:00-22:00 Saturday through Sunday.
