Thierry Henry Says Iceland Are No Pushover: “Be Careful. You Never Know.”

Published June 26, 2016

The pundits on England’s flagship football show, Match of the Day, had some interesting opinions on this evening’s show, ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Talking about their chances, former England striker Alan Shearer was supremely confident, saying: “It’s a very good draw. It would be unthinkable for England to lose.”

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand was equally dismissive, saying: “Wayne Rooney said something that was very true… that they’ve dominated all three games. If they can be more clinical in front of goal, this will be a walk in the park for them tomorrow.”

But Thierry Henry, the former France striker and Arsenal legend, was much more measured after Englands last game—a 0-0 draw against Slovakia. “If England score early, it’ll be difficult for Iceland,” he said. “But we’ve seen that England struggle to score. It was like that against Slovakia… they had lots of crosses, but nothing was really clear. So, with Iceland… you know how they’ll play. Be careful. You never know.”
