Iceland’s football team will return from the Euro 2016 tournament today, having been beaten 5-2 by an imperious France side at the Stade de France last night.
They may not have claimed the trophy, but they’ll be greeted as national heroes nonetheless. Iceland outperformed the expectations of many, both home and away, by first advancing from a tough group, and then claiming the scalp of the England team in the last 16.
The team will be greeted by fans at Arnarhóll, the downtown hill next to Harpa where many people watched the knockout-stage games. The festivities begin at 6:30pm, with the team expected to arrive from Keflavík airport between 7-8pm.
The organisers say a large turnout is expected.
