The city of Reykjavík is once again calling on residents for ideas on how to better some of the city’s neighbourhoods.
As has been the case for the past two years, the website Betri Reykjavík is calling on city residents for their proposals for projects to improve a neighbourhood in the city. MBL reports that entries for this contest will be open until December 1.
Each idea submitted will be reviewed, and dozens of them will be reviewed by city council and then voted on. Over the past two years, the city has worked on over 200 projects proposed by residents themselves, investing about 600 million ISK in these projects.
Betri Reykjavík, which opened in 2010, is a form of electronic democracy. Residents submit proposals, other residents “upvote” or “downvote” these proposals, and city council obliges itself to take up 16 proposals each month for serious discussion in City Hall.
