An earthquake which shook in Reykjanes at 10:25 this morning was felt all the way in Reykjavík. People in downtown Reykjavík, including in these very offices, felt significant tremors last for about ten seconds.

According to the data on the Icelandic Met Office, the epicenter was about five kilometres west of Fagradalsfjall and was measured with a magnitude of 5.1. It struck at 10:25:58.

There have been 20 aftershocks recorded since then over the course of ten minutes, seven of them barely over 2.0.

So if you felt the ground shake beneath you in Reykjavík just now, that’s why.
