The 24-hour work stoppage by the Air Mechanics’ Union has begun, 65 Icelandair flights cancelled

The 24-hour work stoppage by the Air Mechanics’ Union has begun, reports RÚV.

As reported, the stoppage, which began this morning at 06:00 am will run until 06:00 am tomorrow morning unless a collective bargaining agreement is reached this afternoon. Sixty-five flights have been cancelled due to the strike, nearly all of Icelandair’s flights today.

The only exceptions to this are Icelandair flights which depart from overseas this afternoon and arrive in Iceland tomorrow morning.

The work stoppage is expected to effect roughly 12,000 passengers.

Icelandair have promised to assist travellers by making changes to flights for those scheduled to arrive in or depart from Keflavík International Airport during the work stoppage. Those who cannot make changes and opt instead to cancel their flights will have their tickets refunded. In addition, extra flights have been added to tomorrow’s schedule.
