The Best Of Iceland On Instagram: This Week’s #GVpics

Published February 16, 2016

What a week! We experienced some stormy weather, northern lights, and Icelandic daily life in the freezing cold—all of which is perfectly portrayed in the stunning submissions our dear readers and Instagram enthusiasts submitted (via the #GVpics hashtag).

Landscapes dominated the entries this week—probably because of the beautiful sunlight that’s shining brighter by the day, making our late winter mornings much more tolerable.

But we’re interested in more than Iceland’s landscapes, as beautiful as they are—we’re also after curios and oddities, personalities, situations, secrets, and the new discoveries you made, whether a favourite bar or a strange piece of graffiti. So keep on tagging your pics with the hashtag #gvpics for the chance of becoming next week’s winner of the Grapevine Instagram contest, netting yourself a free Grapevine t-shirt in the process!

Where can I find this friend group and how do I become a part of it?

One of the most stunning yet dangerous places in Iceland.

Watch out for strong waves at Reynisfjara black beach ! Sadly a tourist died today here.. Every time I’ve been there I saw tourists getting wet feet or more. So take care and a big distance ! Reynisfjara, Vik, Iceland ?? A video posted by Jim Verschooten (@jim_haacht) on

You’re ten minutes late, trying to catch the bus and wearing heels in this weather. That’s February in Iceland for ya.

This photograph makes me want to travel the countryside, immediately.

This one is interesting, not the typical Icelandic landscape photograph but an ordinary building in Reykjavík made beautiful by the reflection in the windows.

Looks freezing, yet I have a sudden craving for being out on sea.

Wonder if the photographer snuck behind someones windows to capture this one.

Kudos for the costumes! Super photoshop skills as well.

A stunning photograph resembling a painting.

We all know how this one ends. We’ve seen the fail videos.
