A bus carrying 27 passengers left the road and slid into a ditch at Reynisfjall shortly before noon yesterday, reports RÚV.
Search and rescue teams were called to the scene and assisted passengers from the vehicle before taking them to shelter at Ice Wear in Vík. No injuries were reported.
Orri Örvarsson, chairman of the Víkverji search and rescue team, said the bus had driven a considerable distance off the road.
“It went a considerable distance off the road and down into a ditch. It’s very fortunate that no one was injured.”
Shortly after noon, a second call-out followed. Two small buses near Pétursey had also gone off the road. The rescue team managed to get them back onto the road.
Two buses also went off the road near Öxafótalækur at around 18:00 yesterday, ending up side by side off the road. Those buses were brought back onto the road and continued their journey. No injuries were reported.
