Extra! Extra! Read all about it! A new issue of The Grapevine is currently being distributed around the country, with music legends Páll Óskar and Benni Hemm Hemm gracing our cover. Their album, Alveg, is out on streaming services today — but we recommend you buy the vinyl from a local record shop.
Despite the current yellow weather warning, life goes on. There are still events, gallery openings, and concerts to be attended. Mamma Mia! will still be shown at 21:00 — yes, the sing-along version — for Bíó Paradís’ party screening tonight.
There’s also a Cell7 vinyl release/concert at Smekkleysa at 18:00, and a performance by theramin-mastermind Hekla at Mengi at 20:00. English electronic musician Joy Orbison will take the (newly repainted) Austurbæjarbíó stage this evening, with support from Agzilla, digital ísland, and Young Nazareth. Austurbæjarbíó claims it will be the biggest party of the year, so you probably don’t want to miss that, right?
On Saturday, novelist and painter Hallgrímur Helgason opens a solo exhibition — War í lofti, or War in the air — at Gallery Port at 15:00. “Fuzz folk” band Woolly Kind celebrates the release of their first album (out today), í hringi, with a concert at Smekkleysa at 19:00. Krassoff plays this week’s Straumur concert at Kaffibarinn, always free and always at 21:00.
