News has just come in that Hildur Guðnadóttir has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score for The Joker.

She competes for the Oscar in this cateogory with Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Hildur has been racking up numerous awards and nominations over the past few months. She has been nominated for a BAFTA Award, and has also won a Golden Globe, in both cases for The Joker, amongst other accolades, such as her score for Chernobyl. Connoisseurs of refined taste that we are, The Grapevine also awarded her Artist of the Year for the Grapevine Music Awards.

In a recent interview we took with Hildur, she expressed both surprise and delight at her recent success.

“Yeah, how do I explain it?,” she told The Grapevine from her studio in Berlin. “This year, just by complete accident, both projects that I worked on—the reception of them—went beyond my wildest dreams. It’s been quite incredible.”

The winners of the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on February 9th.

UPDATE: Hildur Guðnadóttir’s ‘Joker’ score won best original score at the Academy Awards last night.
