Last week we announced some chilly and sunny days, but today the week awakes to a yellow alert in South Iceland.

The weather is going to get pretty severe all around the country with especially strong winds in the South. Wind gusts are expected to exceed 30 meters per second closer to the mountain areas, such as Eyjafjallajökull or Mýrdalsjökull, and will get stronger in the evening. Rain will come and go in small amounts all around the country.

The Icelandic Met Office advises caution while driving in this area until the warning ends, at around 19:00 tomorrow. If you respect their advice you’ll be able to prevent sand damage and Fast And Furious-worthy overturns.

The capital area can expect a cloudy week, however, the sun will peek out briefly on Wednesday and Sunday. The temperatures are supposed to vary between 0º and 5º during the day, reaching freezing temperatures during the nights, mainly in the north where it could get down to -19º.

The winds gusts tend to be particularly dangerous for bigger cars so please be sure to follow the road conditions and the weather when traveling.
