If you are planning on traveling through South Iceland tomorrow, exercise great caution—or perhaps make other plans.

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a storm warning for the entirety of South Iceland tomorrow. Wind speeds of 13 to 23 metres per second, with heavy rain, are expected. Furthermore, gusts could reach speeds of up to 40 metres per second.

These wind speeds and wet road conditions are not conducive to driving in a compact car. This is especially the case where parts of the road get close to the foot of mountains, where wind gusts are typically their strongest.

This storm warning applies to the start of Tuesday afternoon, and is expected to continue through the evening and night, ending some time in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

As always before traveling, be sure to check both the weather and road conditions before you get behind the wheel.
