Police reported a slow night last night, with one notable exception.

Vísir reports that a man lost control of his car on Álftanesvegur at around midnight last night, crashing the car into a lamp post. No one was killed nor injured.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver informed them that he had been staring at the Northern Lights while driving, getting lost in their awe-inspiring beauty, and subsequently crashing the car.

While no blood was shed in the incident, the car was reportedly totaled, and needed to be towed away.

Police did not specifically mention if the driver in question was a tourist or an Icelander. Regardless, all drivers should bear in mind that if you do see Northern Lights, pull over and stop the car before gazing upon their magnificence.
