If you thought 400 ISK was just too darn expensive to take a bus anywhere, then your lucky day is September 22.

This coming Tuesday is Car-Free Day, Vísir reports, a part of the rollicking celebration that is Transportation Week. In honour of the occasion, all city buses will be absolutely free on September 22.

Municipal bus company Strætó encourages everyone to use mass transit on this day, and leave their worries about petrol costs and parking spaces at home.

The buses will be operating on a normal schedule but, the company warns, as there will likely be a sharp increase in bus passengers, delays can be expected more than usual. Potential passengers are asked to exercise patience.

To see what buses are near you, you can visit bus.is (which re-directs to straeto.is), or get the app, available for both iPhone and Android.
