According to a new poll, most Icelanders want to charge tourists for access to popular natural tourist sites, reports RÚV.

According to a poll by Samtök sunnlenskra sveitarfélaga (Union of Southern Municipalities) 82% support charging visitors for access to natural tourist sites, such as Geysir or Gullfoss.

Respondents were split on how best to construct the fee. 28.3% believed in an arrival and departure fee while 21.5% believed in charging a fee for individual sites and 19.5% wanted a hybrid of the “nature pass” and fees for individual sites.

Some of the respondents also mentioned that they did not feel Icelanders should have to pay for access to these tourist sites.
