The inimitable Canadian musician Neil Young is headed here in July to play his first ever concert in Iceland on July 7 at Laugardalshöll.

The concert will be part of an extended programme of ATP Iceland dubbed the ATP Takeover Series, and was announced by ATP festival organisers Barry Hogan and Tómas Young at a small press conference this afternoon. Neil Young will be joined onstage by the legendary band Crazy Horse. “Neil plays with many different bands, but I’ve seen him with Crazy Horse about fifteen times and they are by far the best,” said Barry, who flew in this morning just for one day to make the announcement.

Barry said that he has been trying to book Neil Young for fifteen years but there have always been scheduling conflicts between the performer and other ATP events. “This is a huge get for us,” he said, adding jokingly “And it is the year of the horse, after all!”

Tickets for the show will be sold both individually and with ATP festival packages. There will also be specially priced tickets for people who have already bought ATP passes but also want to attend the Neil Young show.

The ATP Takeover Series will run the entire week leading up to ATP Iceland (July 10-12), comprising concerts in both Reykjavík and Keflavík, recording showcases, movie screenings and many other events yet to be announced. The organisers added that there are many more acts, both international and local, still to be announced for the official ATP schedule.
