Sad News: Molly The Goat Is Dead

Published October 30, 2013

The goat with the big personality, Molly, passed away last week and has been ceremonially buried. She is sorely missed by her owners.

As reported, the beloved Molly was quite the character and made the news less than two weeks ago. The story of this remarkable goat even made it to the national news.

But woeful fate didn’t allow her much time enjoying her newfound fame.

“It all happened very fast, it seems she got lung infection,” Molly’s owner Arnheiður Hjörleifsdóttir, farmer at Bjarteyjarsandur, told regional news site Skessuhorn.

“Molly got high temperature and called for a vet who gave her antibiotics. But they didn’t seem to work, her temperature rose to 41 degrees and Molly died.”

Arnheiður said that the whole family is mourning.

“We gave her a ceremonial burial and miss her very much. It’s so sad; she only got to be one and a half years old and had never fallen ill before. We find consolation in the thought that at least Molly had a good, fun life here at the farm. I think she was a very happy goat,” Arnheiður added and said that no decision had been made yet about getting another goat.

“We’re just still coming to terms with her death.”
