Yoko Ono Relights The Imagine Peace Tower

It’s John Lennon’s birthday which means that this year’s Imagine Peace Tower Illumination Ceremony takes place in Viðey island tonight at 20:00.

Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, offers free boat rides to anyone who wants to attend the ceremony. Boats start sailing from Skarfabakki wharf at 18:00. There will also be free bus rides from Hlemmur to Skarfabakki, first bus leaving at 18:40 and then every 20 minutes for an hour after that.

The lighting ceremony begins at 19:00 with performance by Pétur Ben, actress Elva Ósk Ólafsdóttir hosts the ceremony, Yoko Ono addresses guests and Suðurland Chamber choir performs.

After the ceremony, boats will transport people back to Skarfabakki as of 21:00, where the buses will offer free rides back to Hlemmur, till 22:30.

The Imagine Peace Tower will be lit until Lennon’s death anniversary, 8 December.
