From Iceland — Davíð Örn Permitted To Leave Turkey

Davíð Örn Permitted To Leave Turkey

Published March 26, 2013

The 28-year-old Icelandic man who was arrested in Turkey on 8 March has been permitted to depart the country to be reunited with his family, RÚV reports.
While Davíð Örn Bjarnason was released from prison on 14 March he was being held in the country, awaiting trial, on a travel ban. This ban has now been lifted.
Davíð stands accused of having attempted to smuggle antiquities out of Turkey when a stone was found among his possessions at the airport as he attempted to return home from a vacation in Antalya. Davíð’s girlfriend had been permitted to return to Sweden, where the Icelandic couple resides, however Davíð was imprisoned and faces longer imprisonment and a fine should he be found guilty.
