From Iceland — Internet Aflutter Over Possible Porn Ban

Internet Aflutter Over Possible Porn Ban

Published February 15, 2013

“Iceland could ban online porn,” warns Time; “Iceland considers pornography ban,” writes The Telegraph; “No porn, please, we’re Icelandic,” quips the CBC.
Iceland is the talk of international news today as the country mulls over the possibility of introducing internet filters – likened by many news sources to the “Great Firewall of China” – to stop anybody in Iceland from viewing porn online.
Minister of the Interior Ögmundur Jónasson has proposing the legislation in an effort to stop any undesirable effect that violent pornography has on society.
“We have to be able to discuss a ban on violent pornography, which we all agree has very harmful effects on young people and can have a clear link to incidences of violent crime,” he said to The Telegraph.
The online ban would compliment Iceland’s existing law against printing and distributing porn.
