Oslo Christmas Tree To Be Lit On Sunday

Published November 25, 2011

The Oslo Christmas tree has arrived and Reykjavík’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at Austurvöllur Square on Sunday, November 27, at 16:00.
This year, the tree will be lit by an eight year old Norwegian-Icelandic girl, Sara Lilja Ingólfsdóttir, and Reykjavík Mayor Jón Gnarr, according to the City of Reykjavík.
The festivities will include an address from Venstre Oslo Chairman Toril Berge, and a programme of events including performances by Norwegian trumpeter Gunnar Halle, Jólasöng cathedral choir, the Reykajvík Brass Band, and a poetry reading by actor Gunnar Eyjolfsson, according to the City of Reykjavík.
The Christmas tree, which is over 12 metres high, is the sixtieth Norwegian spruce to stand at Austurvöllur Square. It is ceremoniously lit on the first Sunday of advent every year.
