From Iceland — Prime Minister Did Not Put In Earplugs

Prime Minister Did Not Put In Earplugs

Published September 13, 2011

DV reported yesterday that Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir put in earplugs when Independence Party Chair Bjarni Benediktsson began speaking during the parliamentary session on the status of discussions with the EU in regards to fisheries and agriculture.
Þórður Björn Sigurðsson from The Movement, wrote on his blog that he saw the story appear on DV during the session, but by the time he returned home, it had disappeared.
In the screenshot he took from the taped session, Jóhanna can indeed be seen fidgeting with her ear, though it’s unclear whether she is putting in earplugs, taking them out, or simply adjusting her earrings.
It now turns out that DV ran the story without verifying whether their assumptions were right. They have now posted a correction revealing that Jóhanna was putting on earrings.  DV has apologised to Jóhanna.
