From Iceland — Progressives Overtake Leftist-Greens

Progressives Overtake Leftist-Greens

Published July 5, 2011

The centre-right Progressive Party is now polling higher than the Leftist-Greens, who are in the ruling coalition, while support for the government in general remains low and unchanged.
The results of the latest Gallup poll show that 18% of respondents would vote for the Progressive Party if elections were held today. The party has not had this much support since September 2009.
Support for the Social Democrats is at 22%, down by barely a percentage point from last month, while 16% said they support the Leftist-Greens. When polled about the government as a whole, 37% expressed support.
The largest party in the country remains, as it has for years now, the Independence Party, with almost as much support as the ruling coalition itself, at 35%.
Support for The Movement is at 3%, and as such, they would not win a seat in parliament if elections were held today.
