Melon Explodes In Ísafjörður

Published April 19, 2011

Police in the northwestern town of Ísafjörður were met with an unusual incident that could have led to serious injuries for one unlucky person.
Vísir reports that last weekend was relatively calm in Ísafjörður, with the exception of a loud explosion that was detonated Saturday night downtown. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that someone had inserted a firework or a flare inside a watermelon, placed it in front of a house, and ignited it.
The explosion was loud enough to wake many people in the surrounding area, including the owner of the house where the melon was detonated. Although no permanent damage was done, pieces of melon were splattered over the front of the house.
Police have no leads as to who was behind the explosion, but they emphasised that playing with explosives or black powder can lead to serious injury.
