Icelandic Death Metal Band Scores Record Deal In Japan

Published December 29, 2010

Icelandic death metal band and hamburger enthusiasts Severed Crotch have landed a record deal in Japan that will serve as a launching pad for an international release.
The band have made a contract with the Japanese label Amputated Vein Records to release their album, The Nature of Entropy, in that country in February. The album has already been released in Iceland last summer, where it made waves in Iceland’s metal community. The album will soon be available in most Japanese music stores, and from there, will then launch into international distribution.
Severed Crotch has been reviewed very favorably by Grapevine staff as well, both in the studio and live. Bogi Bjarnason wrote of their 5-song EP Soul Cremation that the band is “what you get when you mix Death Metal with quantum physics and ADHD.” Metal connoisseur Bob Cluness wrote of their live performance, “As they explode into their own brand of complex death metal that no one else does better in the country, the crowd (finally) go completely apeshit as I get some musical questions answered (the dog barking sounds on ‘Breeding Failure’ actually come from bass player Þorður). It builds up to a pretty glorifying spectacle as SC morph into the house band for some old forgotten pagan god (you know, the really nasty, gory one). It certainly feels like an old god has skullfucked me forever. As it ends, I need to sit down and wonder how far they could go if they had been Swedish or German.”
