From Iceland — Former Grapevine Editor Becomes Editor of Eyjan

Former Grapevine Editor Becomes Editor of Eyjan

Published November 1, 2010

Former Grapevine editor Sveinn Birkir Björnsson has been hired as the editor of news aggregate website Eyjan.is. He replaces outgoing editor Þórfinnur Ómarsson.
Birkir told Eyjan he was “excited to take on the project,” adding that “Eyjan is one of the most popular websites in the country and has established itself as an independent media source where people can have an exchange of opinions.” Eyjan, which was established in 2007 by media watchdog and Grapevine contributor Egil Helgasson, sees about 100,000 visits a week.
Birkir replaced former Grapevine editor Bart Cameron in 2005 and stayed on until 2008, when current Grapevine editor Haukur S. Magnússon took over. He now lives in Sweden.
All of us at the Grapevine congratulate Birkir on his new position, and hope Eyjan’s readership and staff welcome him warmly.
