The Independence Party – the political party that had been in power for
nearly two decades before last fall’s financial crisis saw them driven
from power – are once again the most popular party in the country.
According to a poll conducted by MMR, 43.9% of respondants support the Social Democrat/Leftist-Green coalition government, down from 51.5% in April. At the same time, support for the Independence Party has grown 8%, to where 31.6% say they would vote for them if elections were held today.
By contrast, 24.1% support the Social Dems, down from 29.8% in last spring’s elections, while support for the Leftist-Greens is at 19.8%, support for the Progressives is at 16.6% and support for the Civic Movement (now The Movement) is at 3.1%.
