Happy Friday! A new Grapevine is making its way through town, where journalist Iryna Zubenko reflects on the 50 years since women in Iceland went on strike — and what there still is to be done — for this issue’s cover feature.
Tonight marks the beginning of Sequences XII: Pása/Pause, with two openings at the Marshall House at 17:00 and an opening party at Bíó Paradís at 20:00.
Tomorrow, there are the openings of Textíl Barinn’s takeover of Eiðistorg at 14:00, Soffía Sæmundsdóttir’s Song of a Land at Gallery Fold also at 14:00, and Páll Haukur’s […] at Berg Contemporary at 17:00.
In the evening, Straumur’s weekly concert at Kaffibarinn changes a little to welcome Bjarni Daníel at 19:30 as opposed to the usual 21:00. But that’s good news! Because you can then catch Apex Anima on the Tónabíó stage as the latest artist in their Hauslaus series at 21:00.
Got an event? Add it to the calendar at events.grapevine.is, or check out what’s already happening around town.

Opens October 10 — 18:00 — Gallery Phenomenon
Six artists come together in this exhibition to explore glitches; to the curator, a glitch is an “interruption of what is expected.” Artists Katrin Inga, Sigrún Guðmundsdóttir, Maja Gregl, Korkimon, Gunnhildur Hauksdóttir, and Eva Ísleifs contribute works specifically exploring the female experience, the glitch as “a feminist gesture of misfit and transformation.” ISH

Sequences XII: Group exhibition — Sediment and Signal
Opens October 11 — 17:00 — The Nordic House
Sequences XII: Pause runs from October 10 to 20, with the theme “Pása/Pause,” which we previewed in our previous issue of The Grapevine. Their various exhibitions are themed around different explorations of time, and Sediment and Signal explores progressions of time in nature. The various works in the exhibition explore themes such as human intervention on nature over time (Pétur Thomsen), seasonal growth and decay (Ragna Róbertsdóttir), and microbial systems (Rhoda Ting and Mikkel Bojesen). Opens October 12 — 14:00 — Glérhúsið
This issue of Grapevine is timed with the 50th anniversary of the Kvennaverkfall, and this exhibition is in tandem with these celebrations. Inspired by women’s embroidery and handiwork at the turn of the century, Gerla presents 25 new works at the intersection of the feminist experience and body memory. ÞÆR, the plural feminine pronoun in Icelandic, honours women of the past and their continued legacy. ISH
