Grapevine Picks: Muggur and Erró

Despite the burgeoning pandemic causing the cancellation of events all around Reykjavík, the city’s creative strength and diversity mean that there are still plenty of options to get your culture on over the next seven days.

Muggur

  • Until February 13th
  • National Gallery Of Iceland
  • More information here
Seventh Day in Paradise by Muggur

Guðmundur Thorsteinsson led a full life, though it was cut short by tuberculosis. This retrospective presents a wide selection of his work, created under his artist name Muggur. Scenes from his global travels and images of a merciful Christ curing the sick sit alongside Muggur’s fantasy worlds, where princesses live in castles and trolls lurk. JP

Erró The Traveller

  • Until March 27th
  • Reykjavík Art Museum, Hafnarhús
  • More information here
Mercury Astronauts In Spacesuits by Erró

Guðmundur Guðmundsson—ubiquitously known as Erró—has arguably the highest international profile of any Icelandic visual artist. His activities have taken him all around the world. This exhibition—selected from work that he has donated to the Reykjavík Art Museum—is curated around a travel theme. JP
