Introducing Everyone’s Favourite Venue Of 2010: Tjarnarbíó

Published October 15, 2010

So we’re two days into Airwaves-frenzy, and it’s all been going splendidly up until now! Great times! Fun bands! Wet beer! And folks have been talking a lot, too. We like to troll or listen in when folks are saying interesting things around us, so our ears have been extra wide these past few days.
Some of the ‘word on the street’ we’ve heard is stuff like: “HAM were monstrous!”, “the queues can get annoying!”, “hangover party at Blue Lagoon sounds fun, but going to the pool concerts in Vesturbæjarlaug is really fun, too” and that the sound system at Amsterdam is nothing to shout ‘hurrah!’ for.
One thing we keep hearing everywhere we go is that everyone’s favourite venue this year is Tjarnarbíó by the Reykjavík pond. We hear every other Icelandic band is now planning to throw a release concert there, and that folks have been camping out there regardless of the line-up, cuz they just like the damn place so much.
It’s no wonder. Tjarnarbíó has long been one of Reykjavík’s hidden gems (at last as venue for concerts and such), and seeing it return to action after being closed down for renovations for far too long is excellent.
Tonight’s show at Tjarnarbíó includes a performance from the very exciting frenchies in Gablé (we caught a bit of them at Havarí yesterday, and it was epic) and tomorrow Ghostigital take over the place with their own, specially curated show. It will be awesome!
See you at Tjarnarbíó – and everywhere else…
