North Iceland Gets Jazzy

Tonak Jazz Orchestra and Matisand Jazz trio will be the last to perform in the JazzTA concert series at Götubarinn, a bar in downtown Akureyri tomorrow night at 21:00. Akureyri Music School and the Akureyri Jazz Club collaborated to start the series, which consists of one concert per month, always on a wednesday evening. And admission is free!
Alberto Porro Carmona, director of the concert series and conductor of the Tonak Jazz Orchestra, says he has big plans for the Jazz scene in North Iceland. Though the series has gotten some attention, Alberto hopes to spread the Jazz fever to all other all cities of the north and start a North-Iceland Jazz Festival.
TonAk has already had success performing inside and outside Iceland. In fact, the group is going to make one week tour in May, playing concerts in Faroe Islands.
In addition to Alberto´s Orchestra, expect to see guitarist Matti Tapani Saarinen, drummer Emil Thorri Emilsson and trombonist Einar B. Björnsson of the Matisand Jazz trio play tomorrow night. It will be a grand old time!
